David Young
String Bass and Banjo
David Young

David started playing String Bass over 38 years ago at the age of 12 (which doesn’t make sense when you do the math … he says he’s 39).  For 18 years David played professionally and had the opportunity to work with many musicians and musical styles and genres.  David started his professional career in Idaho with a Bluegrass Band. From there he has worked with bands playing Folk music, Country/Country Rock, 50’s-60’s Rock and Roll, and Reggae. The last 5 years of his professional career where the most musically demanding and rewarding.  David played string bass with a guitarist/vocalist, a duo concentrating mostly on Jazz and original tunes.  In 1990 David made a career change and entered college seeking a music teaching degree.  While at Idaho State University David earned scholarships playing with the IUS Symphonic Band, Chamber Orchestra, and Jazz Band (21 piece big band and 3 to 9 piece ensembles). David also played second chair string bass with the Idaho State Civic Orchestra for two seasons.  Sadly, in ’94 David had to leave college due to serious family matters and spent 6 yrs in California helping his little brother run a family business.  In 2000 David moved to New Hampshire .

David is very involved with  discovering and developing  musical Talent in our young people.  He owns and operates a music teaching studio  called   “String Thing Music”.    David is also the Music Director for New Hampshire Independent School of Music.  You will frequently see David playing acoustic guitar, electric bass and string bass for his better half, "The Lisa Young Band".
