Moose Mountain Jazz Band

Bob Pillsbury
Clarinet and Sax

Bob started taking clarinet lessons in the 5th grade, in the Kennebunk Maine school system.   He went on and played in the high school band, taking up the saxophone during that period.  After a stint in the Army, he started playing with local groups for weekend dances, lounge gigs, etc.

He took a course in big band arranging from the Berklee School of Music He joined the Lee Russell Orchestra, based in Old Orchard Beach. He did arranging for them and also played in the band.   Gigs included a house-band job at the Palace Ballroom in Old Orchard Beach, as well as dances in the famous Old Orchard Pier.

Bob also appeared with the Randy Brooks rehearsal band in Sanford Maine, following Randy's return home from the road.  Other bands included, working at Pease Air Base, both in the NCO and Officer's Clubs.  He also had a longtime 20-year run in the summer, at the Black Point Inn in Scarborough Maine.

He fondly remembers being part of the pit band for the "Clipper Minstrels" shows put on by the Portsmouth High music department. These shows included arrangements by Warren Muchemore and were conducted by Bill Elwell. Bob was also called in for one performance with the Portland Symphony (“ they never asked me back” he Says.)

More recently, he has been performing with the Royal River Philharmonic Jazz Band in southern Maine, as well as fill-ins with various bands.  These include: State Street Jazz Band, Port City Jazz Band and the Good Memories Swing Band of North Hampton, NH.

He resides in Kennebunk Maine, with his wife of forty-one years.  Bob still works part-time as a mechanical piping designer and estimator in the family business that he retired from in 1994
