Bob Modr joins us from the coast of Maine, and holds a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Music from the New England Conservatory of Music. Bob, now retired after 39 years, has had a full career as a Brass Specialist, and a Music Educator. He began his professional playing career at age 13 performing with a Polish/American orchestra doing live radio broadcasts and weekly dances in his home town in Connecticut. Next came a four year tour with the 1st Air Force Band in Long Island. In addition to performing with small groups and symphony work, Bob spent the last 15 years as a music educator for the Department of Defense. Most of his time was spent overseas, living and teaching in England, and later in Italy. Bob did reside in the states for the summers, and it was at this time that he was able to pursue his passion for Dixieland Jazz. Bob spent many years as the principal Cornet player with the “Royal River Philharmonic Jazz Band”, and can be heard on several of their recordings. Along with The Moose Mountain Jazz Band, he currently performs with the State Street Traditional Jazz Band, in Portland Maine. Bob has performed as principal trumpet with the Bangor Symphony, the Bowdoin College Community Orchestra, the Bowdoin College Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and the Bath Municipal Band of which he is also the assistant conductor. Bob is the owner/founder of The Brass Studio of Maine, a private music studio in Harpswell, Maine. He lives with his artist wife of 47 years in Harpswell, Maine.
